Dharamsala (May 31): The state level one-day Women Congress convention held at Nagrota Bagwan in district Kangra remained a low-key affair on Tuesday wit low participation.
Despite the presence of HPCC chief Kaul Singh, CLP leader Vidya Stokes, general secretary of the Akhil Bhartiya Mahila Congress Manorma Sharma Dobriyal and All India Mahila Congress chief Prabha Thakur, the poor gathering at the convention organized in Ren Basera hall hinted that Congress women wing was in no way strong in the state.
Dr Prabha Thakur, national president of All India Women Congress called upon the women workers to reach the grossroots level and highlight the policies, programs and achievements of the UPA government. She expressed confidence that the Congress party would form its government in Himachal in the next assembly polls in the state.
She alleged that corruption was rampent in the state and the development works had come to a standstill, besides the crime graph too going up. She regretted that the law and order situation was getting worse in the state as repression on people and rape cases were on trise. She said the BJP leaders were misleading the countrymen in the name of Lord Rama. Thakur promised that she would try that women get maximum number of the party tickets in the forthcoming elections to the state assembly in Himachal Pradesh. She demanded resignation from the Dhumal government, alleging that the state government had failed on all fronts.
Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Thakur Kaul Singh alleged that the state government had been selling the interests of the state to outsiders. He regretted that the state was being ruined by the ruling party. He alleged that multiple taxes introduced by the Dhumal-led government were badly affecting economy of the state.
