Hamirpur parliamentary constituency by-poll on May 22

Shimla: By-poll for the Hamirpur parliamentary constituency will be held on May 22.The notification for the election will be the issued on April 28 and the last date for filing nomination will be May 5. It may be remembered that this would be the third election in the constituency in the last four days.
The scrutiny will be held on May 6 and withdrawals will be allowed till May 8, while the result will be declared on May 25. There are 1,173,362 voters in the constituency comprising Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Una and Dehra subdivision of Kangra district.
Chief electoral officer Manisha Nanda said the model code of conduct had come into force with immediate effect in the districts concerned.
Earlier, by-election was held in June last after the exit of BJP MP Suresh Chandel, who was caught in the cash-for-question scam.
Later, in June, 2007, PK Dhumal defeated Ram Lal Thakur by 80000 votes in the following by-election. The seat again fell vacant after he took over as the Chief Minister in December, 2007 and with the Lok Sabha elections due in May, 2009, the constituency will have another election within a year.
