Shimla (May 21): The Himachal Pradesh state secretariat of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has decided to hold protests throughout the state against murky land deals, which the party claims are being being facilitated by the BJP. The CPIM has strongly condemned the state government for being silent over these deals.

“Instead of steeping up vigilance over such deals where Section 118 of the Tenancy Act has been flagrantly violated, the government has become a facilitator in it. To put up a face of naivety, the government instead asked the HP high court to intervene and investigate such deals, thus passing on its responsibility onto the judiciary,” said Tikender Singh Panwar,
member, state secretariat. The CPIM has stated that with a refusal from the HP judiciary that it will not investigate the matter, the onus once again lies on the BJP government to come out clean hands as far as the shady deals are concerned.

The CPIM has stated that a large number of benami transactions have taken place in the last 3.5 years tenure of the BJP rule where Section 118 of the Tenancy Act has been grossly violated. Such abundant transactions have taken place in almost all parts of the state, but in Shimla and Solan districts the percentage is the highest, it claimed. “The glaring violations are in Kufri where for hospitality development large chunk of land is being purchased. Another classic example is that of Himalayan International School in which even the court has intervened. Despite this, the BJP is asking for the people to report benami deals in the state,” it said.
