HIV prevalence declines in Himachal

Shimla: AIDS control measures being initiated by the health authorities in the state has started bearing fruits, as HIV prevalence is showing declining trends in this hill state.

Replying to a verbal query of G. R. Musafir(Cong-Pachhad).Health and Family Welfare Minister Rajiv Bindal informed member that HIV cases were on decline in the state, as it had come down to 0.78 percent till December, 2010 as compared to 1.69 pc in 2008. As many as 44387 persons were examined for HIV in the year 2008 and 748 tested positive for HIV while in 2010  out of 102330 sample examined, 805 were found HIV positive.

Rajiv Bindal also said that 49 integrated counseling and testing centers were working in the state where 228014 people have got themselves voluntary tested while 235167 were counseled in these centers. Two new ICTC mobile vans have also been made operational in the state to give the HIV testing facility at the door step to people.
