Shimla: In order to provide generic drug on competitive rates, state health authority has decided to open generic drug stores along with major hospitals in the state. First of its kind was today dedicated to people after cutting ribbon by a common patient in IGMC complex.
While talking to Himvani Deputy Medical Superindent Ramesh Chand said that generic drugs store would be looked after by employees of Rogi Kalayan Samiti (RKS), which in turn would invite bids from the drug firms to provide unbranded salts on competitive rates. He said that it would substantially reduce the rate of drugs, as it would not have commission and margins of pharmaceutical companies. Generic drugs would be affordable to patients irrespective of their economic status. He said that RKSs would hire services of private pharmacists to equip their generic store.
He also informed that similar drug stores were also being planned to set up in other major hospitals in the state. Ramesh Chand also said that besides getting drugs on economical rates patient would not have to move from pillar to post to find the branded drug being prescribed by doctor earlier. He said that RKS would maintain the quality of generic drugs so that the patient could safely use it.
