Himachal government clamps embargo on new water connections

Shimla: In order to strike a balance between demand and supply of drinking water during current summer season Himachal Pradesh government has clamped embargo on issuing of new water connection to the people till month of July (when monsoon would arrives in the state.

Issuing a notification in this regard here today, State Irrigation and Public Health Department spokesperson said that no new connections would be issued to fresh applicants, as embargo has been imposed on it till month of July to provide constant water supply in existing connection. About 90 percent of water was being supplied to people through tap and people even used the drinking water for other use. During every summer season, the water resources mostly river basins witness sharp decline in water level or flow, while sudden increase in its demand also becomes an acid test for state authority, which has to deploy water tankers and other means to maintain the supply to people.
