Shimla: Powerful hail storm today wiped out the blooming apple crop in about dozen gram pachayats in Jubbal and Kotkhai areas, as multi-crore anti-hail gun failed to diffuse the hail cloud, farmers told Himvani.

Apple orchardist and former MLA of Jubbal and Kotkhai Rohit Thakur told Himvani that a powerful hail storm dashed down the leaves and growing fruits to the ground and damaged the standing trees in Jubbal Kotkhai area. He said that apple crop was totally wiped out by the hailstorm, which has shattered the hope of thousands of farmers, while government has failed to protect their interest. Anti-hail gun system installed by the government has missed the target second time in row, while government defended the system last time by citing power failure.

On the other hand, State Horticulture Minister Narinder Bragta responded that the anti hail gun system was being installed on pilot basis and it might fail in its experimentation. Defending the government over allegations being leveled, Narinder Bragta said that thousand crore project ‘Chanderyan’ also got failed and it could be expected for anti-hail  gun system too, which is on trail basis.
