Shimla: Breaking the silence after the recent controversies, Tibetan religious leader Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje today stated  that he is always grateful to the Government of India for its courtesy and hospitality and categorically denied having any link with Chinese authority.

In a press statement released today, Tibetan leader said that the Buddhist spiritual education was the solitary reason of his coming to India in December 1999. “I had to receive the oral teachings of the Karmapa Lineage, which have been passed down in an unbroken chain from India since the time of Lord Buddha. The origins of my lineage are in Nalanda whose great scholar, Naropa received the teachings from his teacher, the Mahasiddha Tilopa. Naropa transmitted these teachings to the Tibetan Marpa, who passed them on to his disciple, Milarepa and then to Gampopa from whom they were passed to Dusum Khyenpa, the first Karmapa”, he said.

He also claimed that the Karmapa Lineage is deeply rooted in India where his illustrious predecessor, the 16th Karmapa also found refuge and established Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim. The Chinese government would not have allowed them to visit him in Tibet and he could not live up to the high expectations from his position without their spiritual guidance. “If I had stayed in Tibet, I strongly believe I would have had to denounce His Holiness, the Dalai Lama”, he said. He added, “I join His Holiness the Dalai Lama and His Eminence Kyabche Kirti Rinpoche in their appeal to the Central Chinese Government and the international community to peacefully resolve the current crisis in Ngaba.”
