572 new villages and three townships in Himachal

Shimla:First decade of 21 century in Himachal Pradesh registered formation of 572 new villages and three new townships during 2011 census operation. According to Assistant Director Census R.C.Chauhan, census report released recently highlights that number of villages has gone up from 20118 to 20690.

State had 56 towns in 2001 and this number has also gone up to 59. New towns are Indora in Nurpoor Tehsil of Kangra district, Jakhari in Rampur tehsil of this district and Shamshi in Kullu tehsill and district. The population of the state has also increased from 60,77900 lakh in 2001 to 68,56509.
