Shimla (March 25): The Shimla unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist) has strongly condemns the decision of Himachal Pradesh government to increase the rate of water charges by 10 per cent from April 1, 2011.
District general secretary of CPI-M Sanjay Chauhan said in a press release that this will put an additional burden on the common man of the state, who is already badly affected by rising prices due to high inflation. “The state BJP government is implementing neo-liberal policies alike the UPA government. Through privatiseing of public utility services state, the state government is putting additional burden on the common man by imposing user charges and allowing making profit by private companies,” he said.
“Shimla Municipal Corporation is also imposing similar anti-people policies and privatiseing all the public utility services and increasing water charges annually. Sanitation has already been privatised and other services are either being privatised or being out sourced,” alleged Chauhan. CPIM has demanded that the state government and Shimla MC should not increase water rates and this proposal should be withdrawn immediately
