Nahan (March 24): Police opened three rounds of fire to disburse an angry mob following a clash between two communities late last evening after a triple murder during Holla Mohalla celebrations in Paonta Sahib.
A police patrolling vehicle was also set on fire while two ambulances of Paonta Hospital were damaged. The clash was triggered following an argument between members of Bahti community and Harijan communities over parking of motor-cycles. One particular community came with sharp weapons and killed three persons. Many other persons were also injured during the violence.
Sirmaur SP Punita Bhardwaj said that a large number of police had been deployed at Paonta area to control the situation. She said that many private vehicles were also damaged by the mob. She said that the mob also burned a locality belonging to a particular community. Inspector general of police (law & order) Ashok Sharma rushed to the spot from Shimla to access the present situation. Deputy commissioner Meera Mohanti claimed the situation was tense but under control.
