Shimla: World Eleven Una today bagged the title of T-20 Tournament, the biggest cricket games attended by 1406 teams organised by Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association. Consequently, Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association created history by becoming the first organisation or association to host biggest cricket games.
Twenty Two teams from 11 Districts (two from each District) participated in the second phase of the tournament, the finals of which were played today between Rattan Jewellers Mandi and World XI Una at HPCA cricket stadium Dharamshala. Man of the Match was Sanjeev Puri of World XI Una for his figures of 3 for 12 in 4 overs. The winner team was given cash prize of Rs 3 Lakh, the runners up team was given cash prize of Rs 2 Lakh and semi finalist teams were given cash prize of Rs 51,000 each.
It was only through this championship that players like Gurvinder came to the fore in the year 2009-10, who in his Ranji Trophy debut bagged four wickets against Uttar Pradesh. HPCA expects that more players from rural Himachal will come to the fore who can be nurtured into good players for state as well as the country. The occasion was also witnessed by Ms. Murthy from Limca Book of Records. The matches were distributed over 73 venues across the state in which about 19684 players took part and it had been divided into two phases. In the first phase the clubs played at Intra District Level and two teams from each district qualified for the second phase i.e. Inter District Phase.
I witnessed the finals and it was good to see that HPCA is putting best efforts to provide appropriate chance to folks in rural Himachal as well !!!
