Shimla Heritage Walk on November 2

Do you know that Barnes Court, residence of Governor of Himachal Pradesh just got 175 years old? It is here that historic Shimla Agreement was signed between Indira Gandhi and Zulfiquar Ali Bhutto. It is Barnes Court that the first meeting of the senate of the Panjab University, then at Lahore, was held on October 14, 1882, under the chairmanship of first vice-chancellor Borden Powell, thus establishing the first teaching university at Lahore in north India.

There is umpteen such Heritage building waiting to be explored. The tourists travelling to Himachal can join renowned author and historian Raaja Bhasin for a Heritage Walk on 2nd November 2007. This walk will start from Hotel Clarkes, Mall Road at 4:15 PM. Raaja Bhasin is a noted historian and author of critically acclaimed book “Simla: The Summer Capital of British India“.

The walk is planned to show the participants, the heritage of Shimla along the Mall Road. On the way Bhasin will talk about the history of Shimla. The walk is a part of an effort by concerned citizens to preserve the Heritage of Shimla informed Purnima Chauhan (IAS)

What will Raja Bhasin tell the participants When he walks past the glorious (erstwhile) Gaitey Theatre, the half morphed Willows Bank, the mega structure around the Lift area (the history of the Combermere bridge…) or the Gorton Castle…standing tall among the deodars…but rotting with government files from inside…?

    …This used to be history…?
