Shimla: While replying to a written query of Anil Kumar, Industry Minister Kishan Kapoor informed the house that government has ordered to stop extraction of salt from Drang based natural rock salt mines. The extraction of rock salt has been completely barred from Jan 15, 2011, following a complaint of illegal mining by M/s Hindustan Salt Ltd. It was found that the firm was violating legal norms, which forbid such mining.
He said that the firm has yet to pay the royalty of Rs 15, 45190 ( 1.54 Million), as it has produced 480s.20 metric tone salt in between year April 2008 to January 2011. He added that this ation has been taken, as firm failed to follow prescribed code and its scientific mining. Now, it was being proposed to extract with ‘Solution Mining’ technique after getting relaxation under the existing mining rules.
