Union Minister assures early release of hostages in Somalia

Shimla: Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and MP Anurag Thakur requested Union Minister of Shipping G.K. Vasan to take effective steps for early and safe release of Prashant, resident of Shimla town held hostage by sea pirates in Somalia. Responding to the request, G.K. Vasan has assured the Chief Minister that the Union Ministry of Shipping was working in close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs to secure release of the hostages held by sea pirates in Somalia.

Chief Minister said that state was concerned over the safe release of its young man Prashant from Shimla working with the ship captured by pirates along with others crew members of the ship. He said that after coming to know of the incident and request made by kins of Prashant, immediate contact was made with Union Minister of External Affairs and Shipping. Formal letters were written to Minister of External Affairs S.M. Krishna and Union Minister of Shipping G.K. Vasan, seeking their intervention.

He said that Member of Parliament Anurag Thakur had also taken up the issue with the Government of India, seeking early release of all the Indian hostages held by sea pirates. He also added that the state government was constantly in touch with concerned ministries in New Delhi and was impressing upon them to take effective steps to release all the hostages, especially the Indians working with the shipping company. Chief Minister also assured the family members of Prashant that no effort would be left undone to get the young man released.
