Himachal to observe safety day today

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh known for highest fatality rate in road and other accident in the country would observe road Safety Day throughout state today.

In a press statement issued here on Thursday, Industry Minister Kishan Kapoor said that state would celebrate the safety day as it being observed through out the country today. He said that importance of safety was increasing day by day with the technological advancements. He said that people were generally not much aware about safety as they are in normal walks of life. The field of safety is not only limited to industrial establishments, but extended to our houses, offices, road traffic, air traffic and in our day to day life also, he added. He added that number of accidents are taking place in these spheres due to negligence, either on the part of employees/workers or managements/employers.

He said that in the context of our state, safety is most critical in the construction of hydroelectric power projects where the workers are working in most difficult conditions. In order to create safe working environment in Hydro Electric Projects, the state government has instructed the Labour  Department and the district administration to ensure that residential accommodations of the workers are provided only at safe places.  He said that all of us are required to be aware about safety in larger interest of nation. He also appealed to all the management/employers and workers/employees of all industrial establishments and citizens to deliberate upon safety precautions to be observed and also realise the mistakes committed in the past, so that recurrence of such incidents is avoided in future. He further appealed all the residents of the state to take pledge on this day in order to renew our commitment to safety and that all of us would rededicate ourselves to the cause of safety, health and protection of environment and will do our best to observe rules, regulations and procedures and develop attitudes and habits conducive for achieving these objectives.
