Women object to lower prize money for half-marathon winners

Mandi (Feb 26): Women organisations in Mandi have strongly objected to the district police declaring different prize money for male and female winners of the Open Half Marathon to be held in the town on February 27 on the eve of the International Shivratri Fair. Earlier the police had declared a cash prizes of Rs 20,000, 15,000 and 10,000 for the first three positions in the male category and Rs 15,000, 10,000 and 8,000 for the top three female athletes. A formal complaint was submitted to the district police chief today, which read. “It is violation of basic human rights and we females are highly aggrieved and it is requested that this atrocious decisions be taken back and the awards for be made at par with the males.”
