Shimla: Putting an end to the suspense regarding the election schedule, Chief election commissioner N Gopalaswami on Wednesday announced that the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha would be held as per the earlier schedule. He said the decision was taken after consultation with representatives of all the political parties.

However, he added that the schedule may be preponed by few days to allow the school education board conduct examination, which are also scheduled for December. “We have told HPBSE that if necessary, we can prepone the dates by about 15 days so that the process of elections is over by December 6. But we should be informed about it through the chief secretary of the state in a day or two,” he added.

He said it was not possible to hold the elections in the three tribal and remaining assembly segments simultaneously. The CEC said that Section 73 of the Peoples Representation Act had provisions under which the elections could be held six months before the due date.
