Shimla: Newly constituted Karchham Wangtu Sangarsh Samiti has given a 15 day ultimatum to sort out their long pending demands related to 1100 MW Karchham Wangtu Hydropower project, failing to which agitation will be intensified.
While talking to Himvani over phone KWSS president Shayam Sunder said that about 600 villagers from four Gram Panchayat namely Urni, Youla, Chagoan and Miru had gathered at Urni village on Tuesday to choke out fresh strategy to press further their demands. He said that they have decided to form new village level committees to strengthen their protest during the meeting. Meanwhile, villagers agreed to give 15 day ultimatum to government to concede their demands about rehabilitation and compensation to affected families and also addressing violation of environment norms by the Jay Prakesh Compnay building power project on Satluj River in Kinnuar distirct.
Villagers did not participate in state wide Gram Sabha meetings on Feb 20 showing their resentment over state government and Jay Prakesh Company. KWSS alleged that state government did not take No objection certificate from concerned Gram Sabha. They also alleged that their crops were being ruined due to excessive air pollution caused by massive evacuation and dumping of muck in the region. Further, KWSS alleged that both state government and authorities succumbed to the lobbying of JP Company. Villagers alleged that despite company being booked for violating environment norms after registering cases by state pollution control board authorities failed to take any penal action due to lobbying by the corporate giant, which control about 15000 crore hydro electric, cement and education project in the state.
