US ambassador to meet Dalai Lama

Dharamsala: US Ambassador Timothy J. Roemer is likely to meet Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama during a two day visit to this hill town from today.
According to Private Secretary of Tibetan Spiritual leader Dalai Lama Chimme Choekyappa, US ambassador is arriving in Dharamsala today and is scheduled to meet Dalai Lama at his official residence on Thursday. Talking about the motive of this meeting, the official maintained, “Everything is positive and its meeting’s result would also be positive.” He informed that US envoy would also inaugurate of a reception centre for new Tibetan refugees in lower Dharamsala.

State officials also confirmed about the program schedule, but they did not disclose the motive of meeting, but they said that the US ambassador is likely to interact with school children of Tibetan Community followed by a meeting. Deputy Commissioner Kangra R.S. Gupta said that US ambassador is coming on a two day state visit who would be accompanied by his wife. Officials of the Tibetan Government-in-exile said that top government functionaries, including Tibetan Prime Minister Samdhong Rinpoche would accord a ceremonial welcome to the US ambassador on his arrival at Kangra airport. They said Roemer would discuss issues relating to Tibetan exiles with the Dalai Lama.

The visit comes less than two years after a high-level group led by White House adviser Valerie Jarrett visited this town to apprise the Nobel laureate and his functionaries on the best way the US could assist in the resolution of the Tibetan issue. Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh government has also declared Roemer a state guest.
