Hamirpur: If the mysterious letter by Congress leader Harsh Mahajan announcing not to contest the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha elections raised a few eyebrows in political circles, this announcement was at least not seen with much suspicion. Former Himachal Pradesh BJP chief Jai Krishan Sharma on Sunday announced retirement from the election politics, but said he would continue to work for the party.
Addressing a press conference here, BJP MP Prem Kumar Dhumal alleged that chief minister Virbhadra Singh had been making contradictory statements regarding the announcement of Vidhan Sabha elections in the state.
BJP in-charge for Himachal Pradesh, Sat Pal Jain also criticised Virbhadra Singh for opposing the decision of the Election Commission of India for conducting the elections four months ahead of scheduled time. He said that if the Congress party went to the Election Commission demanding postponement of elections, then BJP too would approach the Commission and put up its own case.
