CPRI scientist conferred LC Sikka endowment award

Shimla (Feb 18): National Academy of Agriculture Sciences, New Delhi, conferred Dr Prakash S Naik, project coordinator (potato), Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla, with LC Sikka Endowment Award (2009-10) for his outstanding contribution toward ensuring food and nutritional security.

The award was presented to him by Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi in presence of Union minister of state for agriculture and food processing industries, Harish Rawat during 10th Agricultural Science Congress held at Lucknow on February 10, 2011. Dr. Naik has been associated in development on India’s first heat tolerant and early maturing potato variety ‘Kufri Surya.’ The research group led by Dr. Naik developed and successfully deployed genetic transformation technique, micro-propagation technique and methodologies for in-vitro and cry-conservation of potato genetic resources.
