Govt to consider relaxation of physical fitness for Gorkhas in police

Shimla: State government would consider relaxation of physical fitness norms for recruitment of candidates from Gorkha Community in police force. It will be on the same lines as the Armed Forces, so that Gorkha youth was provided opportunity to serve in the state police.  This was stated by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal in the 11th Meeting of Gorkha Welfare Board held at Dharamshala.

He said that Gorkha Community had contributed significantly, especially in the armed forces. Consequently, efforts were being made to provide all possible benefits to them.  He said that State was providing 12 percent reservation in Class I and II posts and 18 percent in Class III and IV categories of employment.  He said that three Indian Reserve Battalions had been raised in the state where 3021 youth had been provided employment.  He also informed that the state government had started pensions to the soldiers and widows of World War Second.
