Himachal CM invites state NRIs to invest in state

New Delhi: Something that HimVani had always been pushing – to capitalise on the vast Himachal NRI potential – is coming true. Himachal NRIs have been missing from the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. Late though, Himachal Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh has urged the NRIs from the state to invest in the state, according to a press release.

Addressing a meeting organised by a Himachali NRIs association – My Himachal in Washington, USA, Singh said that Himachal had vast opportunities available in various sector and said that the state’s economic growth rate was more than national level growth rate in industrial sector.

He detailed the association about the various incentives and facilities available to investors in the state under the central industrial package and invited them to seek benifit of the concessions.

The CM congratulated My Himachal for setting up a Himachali origin association at the global level and hoped that the association would help in projecting a separate identity of Himachalis at the international level.

He urged the association to organise Himachali cultural and social functions frequently and invite native Americans in their functions to showcase their culture and promote their identity. This in turn, he said, will help boost tourism in the state.

The association has initiated many scholarship schemes for deserving students, social and economic programmes in the state, which also came in for praise from Singh.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhugol Chandel, President My Himachal, thanked the CM for undertaking a foreign visit and honouring the association. He assured the CM that the association will work as ambassador of goodwill of the people and government of Himachal Pradesh to project its distinct cultural and historical identity. He assured that the group would help boost tourism in the state and make favourable climate for foreign direct investment funds.

  2. Dear Varun and Narender,

Thank you for your comments. We all need to work for the betterment of Himachal and its people and that we are doing. Members of My Himachal across US came to meet CM Himachal and to provide their feed back to the visiting delegates and suggested new ideas and suggestions. CM was very supportive of work done by various NGOs in the state. Their meeting with world bank and industry houses went very well.

It is good to know that most of the money rom the World Bank is coming in the form of aid. Only 10% is in the form of deferred interest loan. Investment of this hudge amount of money in the infrastructure and developmental projects in Himachal Pradesh is going to be very beneficial in the lng run. We all need to give credit for their vision and hard work to make a credible case before the world bank to secure these funds.

We all need to generate momentum to encourage people of Himachal origin to reap fruits of all these developments. Let us get involved in this "sewa" as much as we can.

    Best wishes,

    Bhugol Chandel

  3. Dear Mr Chandel

The idea here is to reach to the execution stage from the present studies and supports of NRI Himachali's . Well with the present pace of development , how much we can expect from our NRI friends . My Himachal forum need to establish a special cell in USA to encourse FDI into GREEN Industries in Himachal .

Presently we are looking at execution of objective not just a philosophical idea
