Himachal government takes ownership of Karmapa monastery

Dharamsala: State government today transferred the ownership title of Gyato Tantric Monastory, transit camp of Tibetan religious leader 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinely Dorje. A team of revenue officials comprising Tehsildar Dharamshala Naresh Sharma completed the formalities to transfer the mutation of the land in the name of state government on which Monastery was built in 2000.

After completing the exercises, Naresh Sharma told media persons that now the monastery land is owned by HP government in revenue records, correcting its revenue entries. He said that prior to transferring of title of the property, the land was registered in the fake name of Dile Ram and Prem Singh. He added, “Change over of ownership process was executed with the consent of the Karmapa-backed Karmae Garchen Trust officals.”

Deputy Commissioner Kangra R.S. Gupta had stated earlier that it was a routine revenue exercise. Further, revenue officials said that so far they have executed mutation of more than 40 properties in and around Dharamsala owned by the government-in-exile, transferring them in the name of the state.
