Dharamsala: OneWorld South Asia in association with Ideosync Media Combine and Jagori is holding a training-cum-orientation workshop on community radio at Bachat Bhavan in Dharamsala on October 9 and 10. The workshops is aimed at introducing community radio (CR) as an effective information and communication tool for strengthening local NGOs and community organisations’ communications strategies/programmes.
It will focus on introducing community radio as a development tool to NGOs working in Himachal Pradesh, and equip them with technical information as well as details of the application process for establishing CR stations in the region and including CR as a meaningful tool for social change in their area of work.
The Government of India has recently opened up the airwaves to communities, making it possible for NGOs to apply for community radio licenses. UN agencies and the Information and Broadcasting Ministry are also keen that NGOs acquire the skills to apply for and establish sustainable community radio stations.
OneWorld South Asia is working with other partners to initiate a capacity building and advocacy process in South Asia in association with Community Radio Forum of India.
