Himachal to build three water sports centres

Shimla: While attending Fourth State Tourism Development Board Meeting at Mini Secretariat at Dharamshala, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal stated that in order to build water sports facility in the state three sports centres are being set up. This is being done after study underlying potential of different man made and natural water bodies in the state.

He also said that government is exploring possibilities of developing water sports center in Maharana Pratap Sagar (Pong Dam), Gobind Sagar Dam and Pandoh Dam on the analogy of Chamera-I Dam reservoir, which was recently dedicated to the tourists. He said that the state had vast potential for water sports, which could attract large number of adventure loving people. He said that there was 40 km stretch of clear water in the Pong Dam Reservoir known as Maharana Pratap Sagar while similar potential was available in the Gobind Sagar.

He also stated that the Taleru (Chamera-I) water sports complex in district Chamba was latest example of public private partnership where the state government had invested Rs 76.37 crore, while private sector had also invested Rs 70 crore for plying motor boats and strengthening quality water sports infrastructure.
