Dehra: The recipients of gallantry award of the army and others who have done commendable service in different fields were honoured at the Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign function held at Dehra in Kangra district today.
The recipient of Mahavir Chakra Brigadier (retd) Ratan lal Sharma was himself present on this occasion to receive the honour while the father of Ashok Chakra awardee late Maj. Sudhir Kumar and wife of Mahavir Chakra recipient late Anant Singh Pathania were felicitated on the occasion by Rajya Sabha member Viplav Thakur . The mother of Sena Seva Medal Awardee, martyr Bhuwanesh Dogra was honoured by decorating her with cap and memento. Brig. Rattan Nath Sharma was decorated with the Mahavir Chakra for showing exemplary bravery in Punch sector of Jammu and Kashmir in the 1971 war with Pakistan.
Late Anant Singh Pathania received Mahavir Chakra Award in 1948. He fought in 1947-48war with Pakistan. Pathania who was the first commander of 1/5 Gorkha Rifle Frontier Force also fought war with China in 1962 and in 1971with Pakistan. Late Major Sudhir Kumar, awardee of Ashok Chakra laid his life while fighting with terrorists during operation Rakshak in Jammu and Kashmir. He also received two Sena medals. Late Bhuwanesh Dogra, Sena Seva Medal Awardee made supreme sacrifice while fighting with the terrorists in operation Rakshak in Jammu and Kashmir. The tate government has also named a stadium in Dehra in his honour.
The PIB also honoured retired teacher Prithivi Raj Sharma for his exemplary work and services during 1981 census. He was also awarded with Tamra Patra by the President of India for this work. Education Department of Himachal Pradesh has also given him the commendable letter in 1993 for his outstanding services in the census activities.
