BJP honours newly elected PRI office bearers

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal joined State Incharge, BJP Kalraj Mishra, to honour the newly elected Chairpersons, Vice Chairpersons, Presidents and Vice Presidents of Zila Parishads, Panchayat Samitis, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats, at the ‘Samman Samaroh’ organized by the state BJP at its headquarters at Deep Kamal, here today.

Congratulating the newly elected representatives of panchayat and urban local bodies in the state, Chief Minister, wished them a successful and fruitful term in the service of the people of the State. He said that PRIs were the most vital units of democracy, which represent the common man. He reiterated the resolve of the state government to strengthen them through decentralization of powers so that development process was started from ward level onwards to make Himachal Pradesh a model state in real sense.

He said that the BJP had promised in its election manifesto to provide 50 percent reservation to women in the PRI elections and expressed happiness that instead of 50, 58 percent of women representatives had been elected in the state. He said that the BJP had won 21 municipal councils, while 6 independent councils were also siding with BJP. He said that all the zila parishad and panchayat samiti seats in district Sirmour had been won by BJP besides nine out of 10 panchayat samiti seats were won in district Mandi. He said out of ten zila parishads elected 8 had been won by BJP candidates.

Chief Minister said that the Panchayat Training Institutes at Mashobra in Shimla and Baijnath in Kangra were being strengthened by spending Rs12.88 crore over quality infrastructure creation so that the newly elected representatives were provided training to understand their duties and responsibilities while discharging their duties as public representative. Further, he appealed to the newly elected representatives to rise to the expectations and aspirations of their electors and carry developmental activities with dedication. He hoped that with the new team on the saddles, new dimensions would be given to development and public welfare in the state.
