Shimla: The industry department in Himachal Pradesh has started conducting initial surveys for exploring the possibilities of setting up a cement plant in Sunni area of Shimla district. Sources in the department revealed that a multinational company has shown interest in starting a cement plant here and has even submitted and application to the government.
It may be remembered that the government has already given permission for two cement plants in the area. Cement giant Lafarge would be starting a plant at Alsindi in Mandi district, while Harish Chand Group has been given permission to start a cement plant near Sundarnagar. ACC is already operating a plant at Salapar near Sundarnagar and Ambuja in Darlaghat. Besides this, India Cement would be starting a plant at Chaupal in Shimla district. Environmentalists fear that having big cement plants in a same area would prove disastrous for the local environment.

  1. Growth of Industry is a must if New Jobs are to be created and economy has to move up. India is a fast growing economy and HP too must keep pace with it or else, despite best resources, it will lag behind.

Youths of today have to decide what they want.

New Plants are being put up with High Technology with crores invested in Equipments which protect the environment.

As regard greenry, thousands of trees are planted by the Industry themselves.

So why worry too much for environment.

Learn to make little sacrifices for bigger gains, in the over all interest of Society's Developement.
