Cold claims fifth life in Himachal

Shimla (Jan 18): The icy cold wave claimed another life in Himachal Pradesh as a man was found dead at Chopal this morning, police said here today.

The Hindustan Tibet highway is still snowbound at Narkanda and Kawari near Recong Peo. A state roadways bus ventured on the road this morning but it got trapped in snow near Kufri. High reaches of Himachal Pradesh received another spell of snowfall as 6.2 cm snow was registered at Kalpa town in Kinnuar and four centimeter at Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti district.

There are report of light to moderate snowfall on high reaches of Chamba, Kullu, Lahaula-Spiti and Kinnuar district during last 24 hours while weather was partly cloudy in rest of the state during the day. Light rainfall also occurred at some places including Gohar in Mandi (2.4 mm), Saloni in Chamba (1.5 mm) and Seobagh in Kullu (0.4mm).

Keylong was coldest in the state at minus 11.4 degree Celsius followed by Kalpa and Solan at 6.2 degrees and minus 0.4 degree respectively. Sunderngar was low at 0.1 degrees, Bhutar and Dharamshala 1.4 degrees each, Una and Mandi 1.5 degrees and 1.8 degrees respectively. Minimum in Shimla was 2.1 degrees, Nahan and Palampur 4 each.

The Met office forecast mainly dry weather in the state during next 24 hours.
