Shimla: Amid acceptance of resignation of Dalai Lama by the Tibetan government-in-exile, the exiled Parliament rejected the resignation of Dalai Lama from the post of their political head and urged upon him to continue as their political as well as the religious master.

Earlier, during a day long debate, members one after another in their speeches clarified that only Dalai Lama is authorised to lead them politically as well as religiously. The debate was still continuing. The Tibetan parliament-in-exile is currently debating a historic decision on their leader Dalai Lama’s resignation as the political head of the Tibetan government. The debate is likely to continue till tomorrow and the result of the debate would be available only tomorrow when all the forty-three MP’s would give their views, according to a spokesman of the exiled Tibetan government.

In the morning hours when the debate started, the Prime Minister Samdhong Rinpoche said that the seven cabinet members unanimously accepted Dalai Lama’s decision to retire as political head of Tibetan government-in-exile with a heavy heart. Though cabinet has accepted the resignation, yet it is clear that the house is unlikely to give a nod to the resignation of Dalai Lama as majority members of house want him to continue as their political head besides religious head. Rimpoche told the house that though we have acceded to the request of the Dalai Lama yet people never wanted him (Dalai Lama) to retire from active politics and his resignation would not be accepted by the house. He told the house to discuss in details the outcome of the resignation of their leader and give their opinion thoroughly.
