Narkanda, Kufri feel snow flakes

Shimla (Dec 29): The high reaches of Himachal Pradesh received light to moderate snowfall this morning. Mild snowfall was also witnessed at tourist resorts Kufri and Narkanda near Shimla, thus raising hopes for a white New Year.

Light rainfall was experienced in lower hills and light to moderate snowfall on high reaches of Shimla, Chamba and Kinnaur districts. Report received from Kinnaur said that bordering Chhitkul village had 10 cm of snowfall. In Shimla district tourists resort Narkanda recorded 4 cm snowfall while Kufri had light flake of snowfall; Kharapather also received 4-5 cm snowfall.

Tourists resort Dalhousie in Chamba and Pangi, Bharmour valley also witnessed light snowfall. However, there is not report of snowfall in Keylong of Lahaul Spiti. Shimla and its nearby areas were lashed by light rainfall amid cloudy weather conditions. Tourists were jubilant in the town after expecting snowfall on new year eve in the town.

The Met office forecast heavy rain or snow in high reaches of Himachal Pradesh and light to moderate rain in middle and lower hills of the state owing to prevailing Western Disturbances in the north-western Himalayan region.
