The popular tourist spot and Asia’s second oldest golf course in Naldehra would be upgraded to 18 holes to meet global standards, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh announced.

Singh was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a two day long golf tournament organised by the Naldehra Golf Club to mark the birth centenary celebrations of Himachal’s first Chief Minister, late Dr Y S Parmar. Singh said that the road passing through the golf course would be taken out of the course area and the entire area would be added to golf course so that its size was increased substantially and entire course was made independent from all interferences. He said that a detailed project report for diverting the road had already been prepared and work was likely to start soon.

Chief Minister said that if needed, more land would also be acquired to add to the size of the course. Currently, the course has only nine-holes.

Spread over an area of 30 acres, the golf course celebrated its centenary year last year. Naldehra is situated at about 30 km from Shimla and at an altitude of 6,500 feet above sea-level. The place is famous amongst tourists for sight-seeing and pony-rides.The monsoon months between July and September are particularly good for golfing since the highly watered turf becomes springy and the yardage increases.

Naldehra is named after the Nag temple (or Dehra of God Nag) which lies right in the middle of the course. Besides golfing, Naldehra offers nice walks and soft treks through the forest.
