Kaul Singh Thakur retained as Himachal Congress chief

Shimla (Oct 26): Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Kaul Singh Thakur  retained his post as AICC supremo Sonia Gandhi announced the names of 18 state party chiefs at a meeting in New Delhi today.

According to political experts, this is being seen as a big jolt to Union steel minister Virbhadra Singh, who was keen on the candidature of project former minister Harsh Mahajan or former speaker Gangu Ram Musafir.

Vidya Stokes’ camp had been supporting the name of Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Kaul Singh Thakur to the high command for this post.  Thakur said that winning of Panchayati Raj elections in the state would be his priority. Legislative assembly member from Darang area of Mandi district, Thakur had replaced Viplove Thakur, now member of Rajya Sabha, In July 7, 2008, when the latter resigned after party’s defeat in the state assembly elections.
