Christmas celebrated in the state with traditional gaiety

Christmas was celebrated at the historic church located at the Ridge, Shimla and other churches in the state today. The state witnessed heavy crowd to celebrate X-mas festival here.

Thousands of people were seen inside the Ridge and Roman Catholic church near Armed Training Command headquarters, Shimla this morning.

Christmas carols, sparkling lights, Santa and a great festive spirit on Christmas was seen all over the state.

The tourist resort Kufri and many shady places in the town also offered white Christmas to charm the people who came here to celebrate white Christmas after snowfall in this hill resort on December 22 and 23.

Himachal Pradesh Governor Urmila Singh and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh also expressed their greeting to the people of this state on the eve of Christmas last evening.

All the commercial establishments, churches, missionary schools and institutions were decorated with colourful lights for this festival.

Midnight mass was held at several big and small churches across the state. Almost all Christians in the city decorated their houses with illuminated Christmas trees.

People especially Christians were seen attired in new clothes, exchanging greetings with their brethren besides distributing sweets, cakes and chocolates.

Reports of Christmas celebration also poured from Manali, Dalhousie and Dharamshala.
