Sundernagar (Dec 11): A large number of local residents here today protested in front of a private hospital, alleging negligence in treatment of a patient, which led to his death. They claimed that there was a nexus between government and private doctors in referring patients.

As per the relatives of deceased Vijay Kumar Jain ( 50), a local merchant, he was taken to BBMB Colony Hospital in Sunderngar on December 8 where he was attended by Dr Javed, who referred him to Shusruta Hospital for further treatment, but the attending doctor did not refer the patient to other hospital despite requests by the attendants.

After the cremation, a large number of residents from various localities of Sundernagar town today gathered outside the
hospital and started raising slogan against Dr Sanjay Dhiman and Dr Javed. According to them, there was nexus whereby doctors in various government hospitals refer patients to private hospitals for which they were get suitable commission for every case. The agitated mob demanded registration of a case against the doctor. Afterwards the doctor on duty handed over the treatment record to the family members of the deceased on the intervention of police. However, the police, which remained on the spot for nearly two hours, declined to register a case. According to Deep Chand, SHO of Sundernagar, no case was made out. Family members accused the police of siding with the doctor.

In the past Dr Sanjay Dhiman has been penalised by the Mandi Consumer Forum and was directed to pay Rs 22,000 for giving a fabricated blood report.
