Environment programme to sensitize students at Jasur

    Shimla (Feb 11) To sensitize and motivate the students on environment conservation a one-day awareness and tree plantation programme was organized today by Shimla based NGO, Ashadeep at Jasur, district Kangra in association with Eco and Agro Resource Management and UNDP.
    Students from Public Model High School and Government Senior Secondary School, Jasur participated in the campaign.
    Ashadeep’s Local Coordinator, Neeraj Awasthi said that carrying ahead Ashadeep’s objective of ecological preservation ,the purpose of today’s programme was to enlighten students about the adoption of low carbon life style thereby help reduce the levels of carbon in the atmosphere and keep the environment clean and green.
    The local MLA, Rakesh Pathania while inaugurating the plantation by planting Arjun tree, lauded the effort and called upon the masses to follow the pursuit shown by the students by converting this small step into a big movement.
    “For the project under the aegis of Common Wealth Games 2010 we have been given the responsibility of conducting programmes in Punjab, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh. For Himachal chapter we are associating with Ashadeep to achieve the objective,” said Arshinder Kaur of Eco and Agro Resource Management Chandigarh.
    As many as 700 saplings of Arjun species were made available for plantation by the forest department. Students took the pledge to protect the plants planted by them and to become green citizens that was  administered by the MLA, Rakesh Pathania.
