Himachal Elections: Voter turnout 74.25%; slightly behind 2003 polling

The voting for the 68 Assembly and Himachal elections ended peacefully, however, the turn out likely to leg behind 2003 as last figures issued by the election commission of India showed that the polling was recorded 74.25 pc, however, the polling of 435 polling stations were continuing after 1700 hrs. Analysis of state polling profile showed that in the last five Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh, the highest voter turnout was recorded in 2003 when 74.51 percent of voters cast their vote.

In 2012, the voter turnout stood at 73.51 percent voters had cast votes, while the voter turn-out remained 71.61 in 2007. Before 2003 record voting, the vote percentage in 1998 assembly polls had remained 71.23 percent and 71.72 percent in 1993. Barring 2003 polling recorded leap in this pol as the percentage is mounting above 74 percent in state Himachal Pradesh. After witnessing a hectic poll campaign, the state remained peaceful on the polling day and the voters turned out in abundance to elect the future policymakers for the state.

As the polling started at a surprisingly quick pace on today and more than 54 per cent voters had cast their polls by 1400hrs, though the turn out was on brisk note a little after 1400 hrs but as the voting continued at some polling stations till 1800 hrs, the final turn out of the voters came up to percent in the evening. Though the polling percentage could not cross the maximum record of the state, which was made in 2003 Assembly polls when Himachal Pradesh recorded 74.51 percent polling yet a gain of around 10 percent was recorded over the polling percentage recorded in 2014 Parliamentary Elections.

The polling on all the 68 constituencies of Himachal Pradesh was held in a single go on Thursday for Himachal elections. As per the Election Commission data, as many as 5025941 people in the State were eligible voters including around 19 lac women and 14 trans-genders. A a total of 337 candidates, including 19 women are in the fray. 62 incumbent MLAs from Congress, BJP and others have been trying their luck again in the electoral contest for Himachal elections.

The Chief Election Officer Pushpender Rajput said that the final data of polling had shown 74 percent polling in the state. Rajput said that not even a single incident of violence or disruption in poll process was recorded throughout the State. He said that a total of 11283 ballot units, 9809 control units and 11050 VVPATs were used in the polling process and during the polling 33 ballot units, 29 control units and 79 VVPATs were replaced due to technical snags.

Kullu district having four assembly segment recorded 77.87 pc Manali segment 79 pc, Kullu 76 pc, Banjar 80 PC and Anni 76 pc. Kinnaur has only segment 75.09 pc polling, Breling polling stations recorded 96.48 turns out. Lahaul Spiti distirct which had only one segment 73.4 pc, In Spiti valley about 80.43 pc polling has been occured in which highest turnout was at 73A Key polling station where 100 per cent poling took place, Kangra district which has 15 assembly segment reocrded 77.9 pc polling and Sirmour district 82 pc for Himachal elections.

In Chamba district 73.27 pc, Churah 76.13 pc, Bhatiyat 73.35 pc, Dalhousie 73.06 pc, Bharmour 71.58 pc and Chamba 71.35 pc. Bilaspur district 75 .63 pc, in Bilaspur assembly segment 74.80 pc, Naina Devi 82.14 pc, Jhanduta 73.52 pc and Ghumarwin 72.85 pc, Shimla district recorded 73.59 per cent polling till 1700 hrs, Including Jubbal Kotkhai 80.34 pc, Rampur 74.31 pc, Chopal 75.03pc , Shimla rural 73.18 , Theog 73.02 pc, Kasumpti 76.93 pc and Rohru 71.81 p c, Shimla Urban 65 pc. In Solan 73 pc polling in the state till 1700 hrs as Doon recorded 84 pc polling, Nalagarh 82 pc, Arki 71 PC, Solan 66.33 pc and Kasauli 60 pc.

In Mandi district polling recorded 73.58 p c in which Seeraj 82 pc, Balh 80 pc, Nachan 78.37, Sundernagar 76.29 pc, Mandi 76.7 pc, Karsog 75.68 pc, Jogindernagar 72.40 pc, Sarkaghat 67.9 pc, Darang 67.2 pc Dharmpur 64.22 pc. In Hamirpur district 69.51 pc including Bhoranj 65.88 pc, Sujanpur 70.27 pc, Hamirpur 69.11 pc, Badsar 70.01 pc and Naduan 72 pc for Himachal elections.
