State to not pass impact of GST on Depot holders: G S Bali

    The Food, Consumer Affairs and Civil Supply Minister G.S. Bali today made it clear that the State Government would not pass the impact of GST on the PDS depot holders while increasing any levy on account of implementation of GST system. He added that GST would not be deducted from the commission or margin of depot holders as the wrong impression was prevailing among them.

     

    Addressing the media persons today he called upon all depot holders to resume their works and lift the food grain from the PDS warehouse. The Minister said that some of them were not lifting the food grains due to the confusion of GST. ”I ensure them that the State Government is committed to pay the GST and include it in the prices of food items.” he said. Since the Government is distributing food grain to the poor people in the state and far-flung areas, it is also the responsibility of these depot holders to serve them helping the Government.

     

    He said that no Depot holder need to register under the GST and the State Government would ensure that all formalities to overcome on the department level for the supply of ration. He said that Officer of Food Corporation of India has been asked to work in tandem so that availability of food grain could be made through all PDS shops in the State. He said that under the GST there is no tax on the Wheat flour and Rice moreover depot holders should inform the department if they found any difficulty in the process.

     

    He said that the State Government would ensure to supply the levy sugar to the people under PDS as the centre did not resume its quota. He said that process of procurement of sugar is being delayed as the state cabinet decided to buy sugar on the lower prices as the tender invited reflected the higher prices. The order has been issued to the Government that PDS sugar is made available for this month on the higher prices moreover the State Government would issue fresh tenders to procure the sugar.
