Assembly mourns demise of Minister & former MLA

    The special session of Himachal Pradesh Assembly began today with obituary references to mourn the recent demise of Minister for Ayurveda and Co-operative Mr. Karan Singh and former Member of Assembly Mr. Mull Raj Padha. As the House assembled for the special session to clear the GST bill, speaker Brij Behari Butail said that Chief Minister Mr Virbhadra Singh wants to present the obituary references as Mr. Karan Singh passed away on May 12 after suffering from lung infection.

     

    Presenting obituary references in the House, Chief Minister said that Mr Karan Singh was 59 years old and he was elevated to his Cabinet on Oct 27 2015. He was elected on BJP ticket twice in 1990 and 1998 and also became Minister of Elementary Education and Science and technology with independent charges in Prem Kumar Dhumal Government.

     

    He said that Karan Singh joined the Congress in 2009 and elected on Congress ticket for the third time from Banjar in 2012. Mr. Singh also paid tribute to Mull Raj Padha former MLA of Dharmshala. Chief Minister said that Mulh Raj Padha elected as Congress MLA in 1985 after joining the public life from President of Gram Panchayat Khaniyara of Dharamshala. Mr. Singh said that both Mr. Karan Singh and Mr. Padha was known for their public service.

     

    The leader of Opposition Prem Kumar Dhumal, Spaker Mr. Butail, elder brother of Mr. Karan Singh Mr. Maheshwer Singh, IPH Minister Vidya Stokes, Health Minister Mr. Kaul Singh Thakur, Transport Minister Mr. G.S.Bali, former Speaker Mr. Gulab Singh Thakur, Congress member Kuldeep Kumar and BJP member Govind Thakur from Manali also paid tribute to the departed soul. The House also observed two minute silence after the obituary references and the proceeding was adjourned for the day in mark of demise of seating MLA and minister.
