HRTC conductors withdraw hunger strike

More than 3600 conductors who were shunted from their services by the Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) today withdrew their protest after getting assurance from Chief Minister to consider their demands sympathetically. Conductors were on chair hunger strike since Apr 1, 2017, seeking policy to keep their services as they were removed from their jobs after giving them training.

 

The Divisional Manager of HRTC Mr. Raghuvir Chaudhary ended their hunger strike after offering juice to them as they were siting outside the State Assembly complex since April 1. Trained unemployed Conductor Agitation Committee president Mr Naresh Pathaniya said that they decided to withdraw the protest as Chief minster assured them to provided them employment on regularly and consider their demands. They have gone on hunger strike against pick and choose policy adopted by the HRTC to take their services.

 

Protesters were alleging they discriminated after being paid only Rs 15 per hours service but completing 75 days training period 3600 youths were shown door. They have boycotted Himachal Day function on April 15 as after wearing black badges and come down on the road protesting the state and HRTC to restored their services. They were demanding that HRTC should provide them them employment on the commission basis as after using their services they were fired out without taking them on the contract and regular basis. They were also seeking policy to regularized the services of such conductors in the HRTC after completing contract period.
