IYSA–Arsenal Community Camp held at Dharamshala

The India Youth Soccer Association (IYSA) and Arsenal Community, the Community football coaching department of Arsenal Football Club, UK, is organizing a football camp in Dharamshala for local boys from rural and economically weaker backgrounds. The 2-day camp started today at the Government College in Dharamshala for boys between the age of 13 and 16. Two Arsenal Community Coaches, Luigi Cennamo and Loki Kapoor Parsons are the coaches at the camp. They will teach fundamental techniques; passing, techniques, dribbling, turning to help the players improve their overall game.

 

The local boys attending the camp are from Dharamshala Football Academy run by coach Bhupinder. Varun Rattan Singh CEO Development Logics Solutions Pvt. Ltd, football coaches Scott and Joanna Allen and former players are some of the volunteers from Dharamshala who are helping organize the camp. The event is being held with a believe that sports can serve as a catalyst for development, raising aspirations, improving health and strengthening the education and development of children of our nation.

 

The Arsenal Football Club was started in the community of Arsenal, London in 1886. Arsenal has gone on to win 13 English League titles and a record 12 FA Cups. Arsenal FC understands the importance of giving back to its origins. Arsenal’s former Managing Director, Ken Friar, OBE, founded Arsenal in the Community in the early 1980s and it was developed further by its current Community head, Alan Sefton. A decade ago, the Community department, initiated a program for young coaches to work in local academies abroad in countries such as Uganda, Ghana, Mozambique, Australia, Hong Kong, Bolivia, Philippines, South Africa, India, etc.

 

India Youth Soccer Association (IYSA) in India. IYSA (est. 2000) trains boys from underprivileged and economically weaker backgrounds. IYSA is not for profit organisation and runs the New Delhi Josh Football Academy for approximately 120 players (Under 9 to Under 18 age groups). Most children are from Government Schools and receive coaching free of cost. IYSA – ND Josh also has been back to back Under 19 champions of the Delhi Youth League in 2014 and 2015 and participated in the newly established AIFF U15 & U16 Youth Leagues. IYSA has been working with Arsenal Community since 2012 and the current two Arsenal coaches are the 6th batch of Arsenal Community coaches to work with IYSA. The Community coaches work with IYSA for 4 months annually.
