CPI(M) condemns fresh arrest of Shongtong Union workers

    HP State Unit of CPI(M) today come down heavily on the State Government for ordering arrest of 27 protesting CITU Shongtong Union workers including former party legislators Rakesh Singh and a CITU State leader last night alleging that arrest was made without any  provocation. Terming the police action highly anti-working class and draconian, party secretariat member Tekinder Singh Panwer, Sanjay Chauhan and Kuldeep Tanwer convened a press conference and threaten to statewide protest against despotic action.

     

    Mr Panwer also charged the management of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) executing 450 mega watt Rs 1650 Crore Shongtong project for working as corporate depriving the project workers from their genuine rights. He blamed the PSU for sheltering errant Patel company management which was guilty in the eyes of the Labour Court and High Court directed the State to revocation of fired workers.

     

    Mr. Virbhadra Singh  Government was action on the behest of the Chairman and Managing Director of  HPPCL, Mr. V.K. Sharma and Company managements allowing the later to violate labour norms despite three years of protest by the Shongtong Project Union. The Union would took last resort after filling contempt proceeding before the High Court in the month of December last year had order to reinstates all 900 workers fired by contractors or Patel Corporation during the agitation, Mr Panwer said.

     

    “More than 100 workers were languishing in the jail for last one year as the State Government booked them various in frivolous cases who could not able to abide by bail bound and surety to the tune of lac however HC had issued bail order and Union could not have enough resources to get release them.” he disclosed.

     

    The fresh arrest have been made yesterday after CITU and Shongtong Unions leaders cordon the HPPCL, CMD here on Feb 22 seeking revocation workers along with pending dues. Attempt had been made to eliminate the CPI (M) former Legislators Mr. Rakesh Singh as he was thrown in a jungle last year in unconscious condition during the hunger strike and now Mr. Singh was arrested from Kullu along with CITU leader Vajinder Mehra including 27 arrest, CPI(M) leader alleged.

     

    It was HPPCL and Patel Co. which should be booked in the case for not implementing the Labour Court order or direction issued by the State High Court however Police put victims behind the bar. Union protest despite getting relief had entered in 340th day today. The workers have been made victims by the Petal Company after giving bid of Rs 1000 Cr  of 1650 Crore Shongtong project coming up in Urni areas of Kinnaur which had also caused the massive devastation.

     

    The matter is still in the Labour Court and it had sought reply form the Patel company on Feb 25 to resolved the longest industrial disputed which had taken lives of one workers and a police man who commit suicide in the despite more over more than 140 FIR has been lodged by the Kinnaur and Shimla Police mostly on the workers.
