Criminal negligence force Shimla town to remain unquenched: Mayor

Soon after taking over IPH and Sewerage Greater division recently merged with Municipal Corporation Shimla (Shimla MC) Mayor Mr. Sanjay Chauhan exposed criminal negligence by the contractors and concerned officials as around 4-6 million liter per day (MLD ) water being pilferage due to decayed and substandard lifting water pipe lines forcing citizen of Shimla town to remain unquenched for long time.

 

Talking to Himvani, the Mayor Shimla Mr. Sanjay Chauhan said that civic body was facing the wrath of people of Shimla town due to shortfall of water supply in the peak monsoon season was astonished to find on the spot visit today that sky rising fountain pilferage was unplugged from the decayed and faulty pipe lines at several places for last many years.

 

Releasing the pictures of clippings of massive pilferage of along the line in lifting pipelines from the Giri scheme to Media, the CPI(M) leader said that scheme came up during last BJP regime yet to be dedicated or commission to the people formally almost over its span as low quality and substandard pipes were being installed which were gushing fountains of water at number of places. After return from spot he said that there was leakage of about 4-6 MLD of water supply regularly that was leading to wastage and the Shimla getting only 6-9 MLD of water.

 

Assuring the people of Shimla town to not bother about resuming of regular supply of water as likely to be restored till September 16 on the war footing Mr. Chauhan said that while visiting the Giri water scheme at Sainj in the district today rendering massive loss to the public money waste of water in the way is whooping. He said that it would help to augment the water supply and also to ensure that such a problem does not arise in near future.

The Mayor said that about Rs 3.52 Cr. extra expense to be incurred by the Shimla MC to replace the one km stretch of existing water pipe and also the other leakages would also be rectified under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme to double the intake in the future. He  said that its team also tried to find out alternate source to moot out the extra demand of water for the town as they made inspection of Deha Khad to lift water during the monsoons as it could be replace the Giri discharge during spurt in the silt and muck due to flash floods and dumping of mucks for construction of Theog-Hartkoti-Gumma road.

 

The Mayor said that permanent solution of the frequent water disruption to be make out as he had ordered the officials to install bulk meters in every zone of  town to measured the supply before it reach in the supply tanks in the various part of town.
