Strong current of Chandra river washed down North port supply bridge on Rohtang Tunnel

The heavy current of Chandra River near Koksar of Lahaul Spiti district washed down supply Bridge on under construction Rohtang Tunnel by the strong current this morning averting major tragedy. The reports arriving said that no casualties have been reported so far, the driver of the truck who had got stuck between the heavy current of Chandra was safely rescued. Chandra river is on spate after thawing of glaciers and rainfall in the upstreams.
The bridge linked the North port of Rohtang tunnel from Koksar-Keylong stretch of Manali-Leh highway. The tunnel is likely to be commissioned by the year 2019 as its work has been delayed with cave in part of tunnel on southport recently. The tunnel was being constructed after inviting globe tenders by the border road organization construction wing of Indian Armed forces.

The tunnel would provided all weather connectivity to Lahaul valley and inturn to Leh of Jammu and Kashmir with construction of couple of tunnels on the highway.
