Action on fasting workers: Hundreds of CPI(M) & CITU give mass court arrest

Following the crack-down on fasting five CITU activists before the state secretariat today, hundreds of CPI(m) and CITU workers stormed at prestigious scandal point in Shimla town in the afternoon giving mass court arrested deliberatively violating section 144.

Sitting on fast unto death before the state secretariat for last seven days as many as 250 police jawan today dramatically took action on five CITU activists including CPI(M) former Secretary Mr. Rakesh Singha as they were first evicted from here and left in unconscious state at Sadupulh about 50 km from the capital town.

Following the intervention of CPI(M) state general secretary Mr. Onkar Shad who rushed to Sadupulh along with party comrades, brought Mr. Singha to IGMC who were reported unconscious and frail after seven days of hunger strike . The police action agitated hundreds of CPI(M) workers who stormed the scandal point shouting slogan against Mr. Virbhadra Singh government.

The protest caused chaos in crowded place for about one hours as District General Secretary Mr. Virjinder Mehra led the protest in anger and violated the section 144 to give mass arrest against the action on the peaceful CITU hunger strike workers specially Comarade Singha.

Talking to the media persons Mr. Mehra alleged that it was another longest struggle in the history of CITU protest after Karchham Wangto as the indefinite strike by the 450 mw Shung Tong Project workers today enters in 114th day and state government used force on the subconscious protesters throwing them barbaric in the wild outskirts helplessly.

Mr. Mehra said that party would make this protest state wide after observing the militant actions in many places to condemn the police action and concede their demands. There is no such precedence in the history of movement when subconscious hunger strike workers were crack down on the analogy of Ramlila ground of UPA government.

Mr. Shad said Mr. Singha who was thrown in the outskirts shows the insensitivity of state government and the way it was governing the state. He said that Mr. Singha is in critical condition being treated at IGMC.

CITU workers along with the its general secretary Mr. Kashmir Singh Thakur and Mr. Singha set on the fast unto death hunger strike on July 2 in support of protest of Shung Tong power workers. They were alleging that state government, Kinnuar district administration are under the pressure of Power construction firm as they did not implemented the court order and did not convened meeting. Three CITU workers were already rushed to IGMC last night by the state police and Mr. Singha and one other were removed from the place this morning.
