Shimla district targets to produce 1.60 crore apple cartons

The Shimla district known for export quality and delicious apple cultivation in the Country targets to produce 1 core 60 lakh apple cartons this year as the apple season begins in mid of july, senior district officer disclosed today.

The Deputy Commissioner Shimla Mr. Rohan Singh Thakur took the administration meeting in Shimla today to prepare the advance planning to conduct smooth apple season and transport in the district. He asked the officers to start control room by July 15, 2016 as the apple season is likely to remain normal and district to produce more than 1.60 crore apple boxes like last years.

He said that control room and sub control room will be working and would keep tab on the movement of trucks for the transportation besides ensuring the charging of fixed prices for the freight. The DC also announced that administration would not charge road tax from the apple loaded trucks to ensure that apple transportation cost did not exceed the fixed transport charges.

He also asked officers to open control room in the other states to ensure the smooth functioning of apple season. The District administration would also ensure that farmers would not be charged the market fee on their crop and their produce gets the minimum support prices. The apple collation centres would be open during the season to procure apples to be sold by the State owned agencies like Himachal Pradesh Marketing and fruit processing Corporation.
