7 trekkers went missing after they lost way in Chanderkhani forest

    7 trekkers belonging to Sangrur district of Punjab and one from Himachal Pradesh were reported missing for last few days. The search and rescue party were sent to evacuate them from Chanderkhani forest near ancient Malana village of Kullu district in remote and far-flung areas about 4 kilometers from Nagar Castle of Kullu district police sources confirmed.

    The Superintendent of Police Kullu Mr. Padam Chand said that 6 youths are from Sangrur and one trekker from Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. Local trekkers reportedly established mobile contact with his mother about missing of their way inside dense forest of Chanderkhani pass.

    He said that on the complaint of the trekker, his mother FIR has been lodged and rescue and search team has been sent to trace out the missing youths however no contact could be established so far. The forest is reportedly situated near the ancient Malana village in the Kullu district and about 35 kilometers from Nagar castle.

    The search is on to trace the whereabouts of 7 trekkers who were on the way to Chanderkhani peak in the Manali region and lost contact due to inclement weather, the Manali sub-divisional magistrate Jyoti Rana confirmed.

    So far police parties and members of the trekking team have failed to locate the trekkers as the area has been witnessing intermittent snowfall since early Friday.  “We have deployed three rescue teams comprising 18 to 20 people to search the trekkers,” Ms Rana said.

    She said the missing people comprising a local person left for trekking on Thursday from Nagar of Kullu district of Himachal could not establish contact with the police and sought help.“No contact has been established with anyone so far. Even their families have not established any contact with the local administration,” She added.
