Kirti Chakra to Pathankot terror attack martyr Jagdish Chand

    To great honour for the family of martyr Jagdish Chand, the brave son of Himachal for being decorated with Kirti Chakra (the Country’s 2nd highest Peace Time Gallantry Award) posthumously who displayed a glaring example of valour and killed one of the terrorists in Pathankot terror attack.

    Hailing the decision of honouring martyr Jagdish Chand, Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Dev Vrat and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said here today that the brave soldier deserves the honour.

    The Governor said that till the time such soldiers were there to guard the national boundaries, no one can dare to turn an evil eye towards our Nation. He said every Indian is with the family members of Shri Jagdish Chand and all other martyrs who show exemplary courage to fight terrorism or in preventing outside attacks.

    Mr. Virbhadra Singh in his message said that Himachal Pradesh is a land of brave soldiers and we are proud of those who keep awake guarding our boundaries so that we could sleep peacefully. He said that Martyr Jagdish Chand, who hailed from Basa village in Chamba was a glaring example of courage, who was unarmed when the terrorists attacked Pathankot air-base. After snatching the rifle of one of the terrorists, he shot him dead preventing others from doing more damage and attained martyrdom.

    He said the people of the State were proud that he has been conferred with Kirti Chakra, and it was a moment of great honour to his family members as well.
